OUR TAKE FOR HVAC OWNERS
Put Housecall Pro on your shortlist when the business needs more than a calendar.
For an HVAC shop balancing service work, maintenance customers, and replacement estimates, we would start with a Housecall Pro demo—provided its quoted package covers those workflows at an acceptable cost. Its HVAC Essentials offering lists equipment history, memberships, proposals, and flat-rate pricing. [1]
That is an editorial judgment about the documented fit, not a claim that it is cheaper, easier, or proven to increase revenue. Jobber remains a credible alternative: its lower solo entry price makes it worth considering when basic scheduling and billing are the priority. [3]
Direct vendor links, not affiliate links. Check the current package and request your own quote.
The decision in plain English
Start with Housecall Pro if…
- You want to evaluate equipment, memberships, and replacement proposals together.
- A lower entry price matters less than having the right operational workflow.
- You can test its package with both an office user and a field technician before buying.
Keep Jobber in the running if…
- You are a solo operator who mainly needs scheduling, quotes, and invoices.
- Your buying decision centers on quote presentation and customer approvals.
- Saving notes and checklists without a connection is important to your field work.
These are screening criteria, not universal winners. Read the plan and offline qualifications below before deciding.

Pricing: compare the package you can actually buy
Housecall Pro: general pricing reference
The general page lists the following regular rates. They are included for context—not as a promised HVAC offer. [2]
| Plan | Included users | Per month, billed annually | Monthly billing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 1 | $59 | $79 |
| Essentials | 5 | $149 | $189 |
| Max | 8 | $299 | $329 |
General Max lists $35/month for an extra user; the HVAC page instead displays $100 for Essentials and $75 for Max. Seat pricing requires a written HVAC quote. General Max lists recurring service plans; HVAC Essentials lists memberships. Confirm the exact package, not just the tier name. [2] [1]
Jobber: regular rates after introductory discounts
Jobber separates user counts and billing commitments. The table excludes promotional first-term prices and its distinct monthly-payment, one-year-commitment option. [3]
| Plan | Users | Per month, billed annually | Monthly, no commitment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | 1 | $29 | $49 |
| Connect | 1 / 5 / 10 | $99 / $149 / $229 | $139 / $199 / $299 |
| Grow | 1 / 5 / 10 | $149 / $229 / $299 | $199 / $299 / $399 |
| Plus | 5 / 10 / 15 | $399 / $449 / $529 | $499 / $599 / $699 |
What this means for your budget
A five-person shop should request equivalent quotes—not compare one vendor’s solo plan with the other’s team package. Include office staff who need a login. Ask what the bill becomes after a promotion and after the next hire.
Use this worksheet: subscription + extra users + required add-ons + onboarding/migration + payment and financing charges + messaging or usage fees + taxes. Multiply recurring costs by 12, then add one-time costs. Confirm which items apply; do not assume every fee exists on both products.
Annual “per month” figures are monthly equivalents, not a promise of monthly payments. Prices and packages can change. Tax treatment, eligibility, region, and your order form still need confirmation. We have not established a transaction-fee or total-cost winner.
Why Housecall Pro deserves a serious HVAC demo
Keep customer follow-up and office calls close to the job
Housecall Pro documents postcard campaigns inside the platform and a Voice add-on for staff calls and customer context. Those are practical reasons to prefer its native workflow if your office wants fewer separate systems. Jobber still offers direct mail through SendJim and AI call handling through Receptionist. The green ratings reflect this particular workflow preference—not free inclusion, better AI, or proven sales gains. [33] [34] [35] [36]
Make the maintenance offer tangible
A spring visit on a calendar is only part of a maintenance relationship. Housecall Pro’s service-plan tools describe agreements with service frequency, customer benefits, and billing. Our recommendation is to use the demo to build your actual maintenance offer, then follow it through renewal. [6]
There is a useful detail to check early: its help center says an active service plan’s billing frequency cannot be changed without canceling and creating a replacement plan. Ask how that affects customers switching payment schedules. [7]
Give technicians a repeatable pricing process
The price book is worth investigating if different technicians currently build the same repair differently. Ask the rep to load your own services and show how a price change reaches the field. Consistency is the buying goal; improved margins are not a guaranteed outcome. [9]
Connect the replacement conversation to payment options
Housecall Pro offers consumer financing. For a business quoting replacement equipment, that is a relevant workflow to evaluate alongside the proposal. Availability does not mean every contractor or customer qualifies; request the current terms and merchant costs. Jobber also documents Wisetack financing, so financing alone is not an exclusive Housecall Pro advantage. [10] [8]
Where Jobber may be the better fit
If the immediate need is to stop juggling appointments and invoices, the less expensive solo entry plan deserves consideration. For customer experience, Jobber’s client hub provides a defined path from requesting work to approving a quote and paying. Test that flow with someone who is not involved in your software selection. [11]
Its offline documentation also describes a meaningful distinction: technicians can save notes and checklist work locally. Housecall Pro’s documented offline mode is view-only. That can matter more than an extra office feature if your technicians routinely work without reception. Neither should be treated as a fully offline system. [13] [14] [12]
A 30-minute demo that earns your confidence
Use the same example business, jobs, and staff with both vendors. Score each step as “works as needed,” “workaround,” or “not demonstrated.”
- Minutes 0–5: dispatch. Add an emergency no-cooling call to a full board. Reassign a technician and inspect what the team and customer receive.
- Minutes 5–10: equipment. Find a unit’s model, serial number, previous repair, and warranty information. Confirm what can be imported.
- Minutes 10–15: sell the work. Create repair and replacement options from your services. Inspect approval, deposit, and financing steps.
- Minutes 15–20: maintenance. Sell an agreement with two visits, a customer discount, and a payment schedule. Move a visit and show renewal handling.
- Minutes 20–25: field conditions. Use a real technician’s phone. Lose connectivity, take notes, reconnect, and check what reached the office.
- Minutes 25–30: total cost and exit. Get an itemized quote, demonstrate an export, and confirm renewal, cancellation, onboarding scope, and support availability.
Do not sign until the must-have steps work in the package on your written quote. A polished demo in a higher tier is not proof that the lower tier will do the same job.
Questions HVAC owners ask
Is Housecall Pro better than Jobber for every HVAC business?
No. Our preference is conditional on the work your business needs covered and the actual quote. A solo operator with simple scheduling needs may make a different decision from a shop managing equipment and maintenance agreements.
Does the cheapest plan include everything in this chart?
No. The chart describes documented capabilities and calls out some tier differences. It is not an all-inclusive plan matrix. Verify each required feature, user count, add-on, and usage limit in writing.
Are these ratings based on hands-on testing?
No. The 1–5 ratings are editorial assessments of documented capability using the rubric above. We do not claim hands-on testing, customer-satisfaction scores, savings estimates, or independently measured revenue improvement.
What about support, security, and larger commercial work?
These are important buying criteria but not ranked winners here. Verify support hours and escalation, permissions, MFA, data handling, commercial account structures, purchase orders, inventory requirements, and any compliance needs with each vendor. Their adequacy for your operation requires verification.
Sources, method, and limitations
Additional supplied comparisons were checked against official help pages. We confirmed a QuickBooks Desktop connector, but do not describe HCP Online as unrestricted two-way sync. Voice is an add-on, marketing charges require verification, and both vendors document invoice customization. The supplied screenshot is secondary comparison material, not our own test. Fieldtics and the two supplied YouTube pages could not be retrieved; their claims were not used to change scores. [37] [38] [39]
We reviewed official pricing pages, HVAC pages, feature descriptions, and help-center material, then cross-checked secondary comparisons. Documentation establishes what a vendor says, not how well it works in your business. Our conditional recommendation is our interpretation of those documented workflows.
Third-party comparisons helped identify questions, not establish current prices or a winner. Capterra’s older comparison is not a current price source. The HVAC Edge’s broad feature claims were checked against current vendor plans. FSM Advisor’s search result and opened page disagreed about their verdict; its score and cost calculator were excluded. We do not reproduce reviewer ratings or adopt other publishers’ claims of testing. [19] [20] [21] [22]
